Salma Rasheed reinstated as UN representative
It has been confirmed that Aminath Hussain Shareef, who is also a member of the same family, has not been dismissed.
Dr Salma Rasheed has been reinstated to her position as Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, according to information confirmed by Dhauru.
Dr Salma is the sister of Asma Rasheed. Reports earlier this week indicated that she had been removed from her post.
According to available information, the letter issued to terminate her employment has since been withdrawn, resulting in her reinstatement.
In a related development, it has been confirmed that Aminath Hussain Shareef, who is also a member of the same family, has not been dismissed. She was present at work as recently as Tuesday.
Earlier reports had stated that she had been removed from her position.
The developments follow actions taken against members of the family after the circulation of an audio recording in which the individual believed to be Asma was heard criticising the government.
As part of those actions, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Asma’s son, was removed from his post as Ambassador of the Maldives to the United Arab Emirates. Dr Salma was also dismissed on the same day before the decision was later reversed.
No official statement has been issued regarding the reasons for the dismissal and subsequent reinstatement.
