A Maldivian man reported missing after a cargo vessel travelling from Malé to Gaafu Alif Villingili capsized on Thursday has been found alive.
The vessel overturned after running aground on a reef near Six Senses Laamu in L. Olhuveli.
A total of 13 individuals were on board at the time of the incident. Authorities launched a search operation for one missing person.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) confirmed that the missing individual, Ismail Afeef, was later found alive.
According to the MNDF, he was located while drifting on a piece of timber.
Police said a passing supply vessel spotted Afeef on a floating pallet. He was then transported for treatment.
He is currently receiving medical care at L. Gan Regional Hospital.
Authorities have not provided further details on his condition.
