8 MDP councillors compete for Malé deputy mayor post
In the local council elections held last Saturday, the MDP secured 16 out of 18 seats, including the mayoral post.
Several members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have expressed interest in the position of Deputy Mayor in the newly elected Malé City Council.
In the local council elections held last Saturday, the MDP secured 16 out of 18 seats, including the mayoral post. The remaining two seats were won by the People’s National Congress (PNC).
According to information obtained, eight councillors from the MDP have confirmed their interest in the Deputy Mayor position.
The candidates are:

Fathimath Zahiyya (Hulhumalé North) – 935 votes

Ahmed Ghalib (Hulhumalé South) – 933 votes

Mikail Mohamed Riyadh (Henveiru Central) – 665 votes

Ismail Haleem (Galolhu South) – 923 votes

Hussain Furushan (Maafannu North) – 1,036 votes

Aishath Hana (Maafannu Central) – 943 votes

Ibrahim Laban Shareef (Maafannu South) – 781 votes

Mohamed Rilwan Ali (Maafannu West) – 1,040 votes
All eight candidates confirmed their interest to Dhauru.
The councillors are scheduled to be sworn in on the 17th of next month. The Deputy Mayor will be elected by secret ballot at the first council meeting following the swearing-in.
