Smoking cessation services record 375 quitters in 2025
According to HPA data, 494 staff members have been trained to deliver cessation services nationwide.

A total of 375 people stopped smoking last year, according to statistics released by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The figures show that 2,003 individuals sought assistance to quit smoking through cessation services.
Since November, a law has prohibited the use and sale of tobacco to individuals below a specified age. The law also bans the sale of tobacco products to this group and their involvement in related trade.
To support this measure, the government has introduced cessation clinics for those seeking to stop smoking. These services are available across all islands in Maldives. Nicotine replacement products, including gums and patches, are provided without charge under the Aasandha scheme.
The HPA released the data at a press conference held at the President’s Office Thursday. Of those who accessed the services, 375 individuals have stopped smoking.
HPA Public Health Director Ahmed Nasir stated that tobacco use is a leading cause of disease. He said the agency is working to reduce tobacco consumption.
