Efforts have begun within the People’s National Congress (PNC) to remove Ahmed Nazim, Member of Parliament for Dhiggaru constituency, from his position as Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis.

Sources within the PNC parliamentary group confirmed that members have started lobbying and collecting signatures required to submit a no-confidence motion against Nazim.

According to information obtained by Dhauru, the initiative has not yet been formally presented to the full parliamentary group. The process is being carried out without wider disclosure within the party.

A senior official from the PNC parliamentary group stated that some members have raised concerns regarding Nazim’s conduct in the Majlis. The official said there is a view among certain members that his actions do not align with the government’s position.

“Some members are dissatisfied with how Nazim conducts himself within the Majlis. There is a perception among certain members that his actions are detrimental to the government,” the official said.

The official added that while differences in policy may exist, Nazim’s approach is viewed by some as undermining the administration.

The move follows recent changes in committee assignments, in which Nazim was removed from the National Security Services Committee and the Public Accounts Committee.

The developments come after the ruling party’s performance in the primary and local council elections held earlier this month. In the Dhiggaru constituency, the PNC did not secure a majority of islands.

No official statement has been issued by the PNC regarding the matter.
