Post-mortem completed in death of man at Malé custodial facility

The post-mortem examination of a man who died while in custody at the Malé Custodial Clinic has been completed, police said on Sunday.

The deceased, a 45-year-old Maldivian man, died on 24 April while being held at the facility.

Maldives Police Service said the body was returned to Malé on Saturday night following the examination and has since been handed over to the family.

Authorities have not yet released details of the post-mortem findings.

Police previously said, citing hospital officials, that the man was pronounced dead on arrival after being taken to hospital.

According to police, the individual had been held in custody under a court order requiring him to be produced before the court.
