Two senior officials at the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) have been suspended from their positions.

The officials are Zakariya Hussain, Head of General Administration and Front Office, and Ahmed Ali, Director General of the Judicial Academy.

According to information obtained by Dhauru, both officials were asked to resign from their posts on Tuesday. After they declined to step down, they were placed under suspension later that evening.

The DJA has not yet issued a public statement regarding the matter.

The suspensions follow the resignation of Amjad Musthafa from the post of Chief Judicial Administrator last month.

Zakariya and Ahmed are considered close associates of Amjad and were appointed to their current positions during his tenure at the DJA.

Zakariya previously served as a member of the Civil Service Commission (CSC). He resigned from the commission in July 2020 shortly before Parliament was scheduled to vote on his removal.

At the time, the Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions had recommended his dismissal following an investigation into allegations relating to discriminatory treatment of employees and regulatory breaches.

Ahmed Ali previously served as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education. He resigned from that post in early 2024 while under suspension during a CSC investigation.
