President Mohamed Muizzu said on Sunday that children are facing increasing risks within the digital environment.

In a message issued to mark Children’s Day, the President stated that modern technology and digital devices are exposing some children to risks that could have lasting consequences.

Muizzu said the occasion should serve as a reminder for parents and educators to adopt new approaches aimed at supporting children’s well-being and development.

He stated that children require care, guidance and support throughout their upbringing and said adults carry responsibility for providing encouragement both at home and in schools.

“As today’s children are the youth who will take charge of the nation tomorrow, we must all work together to ensure they are well-versed in noble Islamic principles and Maldivian traditions, and are raised with exemplary character,” the President said.

Muizzu also stated that children represent the future of the country and said ensuring access to education and proper upbringing is a shared responsibility of both the government and society.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing healthcare and education services for children across the Maldives.

According to the President, the administration is also working to ensure that all Maldivian children benefit from opportunities available through the school system.

Muizzu further stated that protecting children from abuse and maintaining a safe environment for them remains one of the government’s priorities.
