Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis Ahmed Nazim left for Malaysia on Wednesday night amid a pending no-confidence motion seeking his removal from office.

The parliamentary group of the People's National Congress decided during a meeting on Wednesday to pursue Nazim’s dismissal. The motion was formally submitted to Parliament on Thursday.

Multiple sources confirmed to Dhauru news that Nazim departed for Malaysia on Wednesday night. Although he frequently travels to Malaysia, where his family resides, the trip comes following the submission of the motion against him. His return date has not been disclosed.

Attempts to obtain a comment from Nazim were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.

The decision by the PNC parliamentary group follows Nazim’s removal from a WhatsApp group reportedly used by President Mohamed Muizzu to communicate with government lawmakers.

The reasons for his removal from the group have not been publicly stated.

Reports also indicate that discussions regarding Nazim’s dismissal were initiated over allegations that he had been working within Parliament against President Muizzu and the administration.

Under parliamentary regulations, the Secretary-General is required to issue notice of the no-confidence motion within three days of receiving it.
