The Mayor and councillors elected to the fifth term of the Malé City Council were sworn into office on Sunday during a ceremony held at the Social Centre in Malé.

The oath of office was administered by Mohamed Shaneez Abdulla, after which the mayor and councillors signed their official declarations.

Members of the Women’s Development Committee also signed their declarations during the ceremony.

In the local council elections held on 4 April, the Maldivian Democratic Party secured most seats in the Malé City Council, with the exception of the Vilimalé and Hulhumalé Central constituencies.

The previous council term had been controlled by members aligned with the People's National Congress.

Adam Azim, who previously served as mayor, was sworn in for a new term.

The members of the fifth-term Malé City Council are:

  • Maafannu South: Ibrahim Laban Shareef

  • Maafannu Central: Aishath Hana

  • Machangolhi Central: Hawwa Shifana

  • Medhu Henveiru: Meekaail Mohamed Riyaaz

  • Henveiru West: Fathimath Sahula

  • Henveiru South: Aishath Nazima

  • Henveiru North: Fathimath Laiza

  • Galolhu South: Ismail Haleem

  • Galolhu North: Aminath Irasha Mohamed

  • Hulhumalé South: Ahmed Ghalib

  • Hulhumalé Central: Ahmed Saneeh Haneef

  • Hulhumalé North: Fathimath Zahiyya

  • Vilimalé: Ibrahim Samah
