MDP selects Meekail as Malé deputy mayor candidate
The decision was made through an internal vote held among MDP councillors ahead of the official council session scheduled to elect the Deputy Mayor.
Councilors representing the Maldivian Democratic Party in the Malé City Council on Sunday selected Meekail Mohamed Riyaz as the party’s candidate for the post of Deputy Mayor.
The decision was made through an internal vote held among MDP councillors ahead of the official council session scheduled to elect the Deputy Mayor.
Before the vote, MDP councillors met at the party’s Dhadikoshee headquarters to agree on a single candidate for the position.
Four councillors contested the internal ballot.
According to the results:

Meekail Mohamed Riyaz of the Henveiru Medhu constituency received seven votes

Fatimath Zahiyya received five votes

Aishath Hana received two votes

Mohamed Rilwan Ali received two votes
The ruling People's National Congress currently holds two seats in the Malé City Council.
The party’s representatives are Ahmed Saneeh Haneef and Ibrahim Samah.
It has not yet been confirmed which of the two PNC councillors will contest the Deputy Mayor election.
