President Muizzu declares MVR 1.8 million in bank accounts

According to the statement covering the past six months, President Muizzu reported a total income of MVR 420,000.

The financial disclosure statement of President Mohamed Muizzu released on Monday shows that he holds a combined total of MVR 1.8 million across three bank accounts.

Under Maldivian law, the President is required to submit an annual declaration to the Auditor General detailing assets, liabilities, income, interests and debts held during the term of office.

According to the statement covering the past six months, President Muizzu reported a total income of MVR 420,000.

The income included:

  • MVR 285,024 as official salary

  • MVR 240,000 in rental income from a row house in Hulhumalé

  • MVR 180,000 listed as a family gift through M. Fig

The statement lists the President’s assets as:

  • His residence in Malé, M. Dhimyaath, obtained through inheritance

  • A land plot in HA. Vashafaru valued at MVR 150,000

  • A row house at Hulhumalé Amba Terrace 2 valued at MVR 5.9 million

  • A share of property at M. Fig received as a gift

  • A vehicle valued at MVR 260,000

According to the filing, the President’s bank holdings are distributed as follows:

  • Bank of Maldives current account: MVR 184,845.52

  • Bank of Maldives savings account: MVR 1.7 million

  • Maldives Islamic Bank savings account: MVR 1,000

The statement also disclosed an outstanding loan with the Maldives Finance and Leasing Company with a remaining balance of MVR 1.3 million.

The original loan amount was not specified.

The financial statement of First Lady Sajidha Mohamed showed total income of MVR 282,926 during the same period.

According to the filing, the income included:

  • MVR 199,999 as First Lady’s allowance

  • MVR 78,000 salary from Dhimyaath Company

  • MVR 4,927 for consultancy services provided to the Ministry of Health

The First Lady’s statement reported no outstanding debts.

The financial statement of Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef was also released.

According to the filing, the Vice President reported income of MVR 314,664 over the past six months.

The statement showed limited personal assets and listed the following bank balances:

  • BML account: MVR 8,390 and USD 61

  • MIB account: MVR 39 and USD 397

No income was reported for the Vice President’s spouse.
