WDC presidents get major salary hike

Salaries for Presidents of Women's Development Committees have been increased under a revised pay structure introduced following amendments to the Decentralisation Act.
Under the amendments, salaries for WDC members are to be determined by the National Pay Commission.
Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, who also serves as President of the National Pay Commission, informed the Local Government Authority of the revised salary structure through a formal letter sent to LGA Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Nimal.
Under the revised structure:

City WDC Presidents will receive MVR 41,500 per month, including a basic salary of MVR 33,000 and a living allowance of MVR 8,500

Island WDC Presidents will receive MVR 21,000 per month, including a basic salary of MVR 16,500 and a living allowance of MVR 4,500
The revised structure for Vice Presidents is as follows:

City WDC Vice Presidents: MVR 7,000 per month, plus MVR 500 per meeting as a sitting allowance

Island WDC Vice Presidents: MVR 6,000 per month, plus MVR 500 per meeting as a sitting allowance
The revised structure for members is:

City WDC Members: MVR 6,000 per month, plus MVR 500 per meeting as a sitting allowance

Island WDC Members: MVR 5,000 per month, plus MVR 500 per meeting as a sitting allowance
The largest increase applies to WDC Presidents.
Prior to the revision:

According to the figures released, annual expenditure for WDC salaries will total MVR 79 million.

5 City WDC Presidents: MVR 2.5 million annually
