President Mohamed Muizzu said on Thursday night that the restructuring of the government carried out in April has improved the performance and efficiency of several ministries.
The restructuring followed the referendum on synchronising presidential and parliamentary elections and the recent local council elections.
As part of the changes, eight ministers resigned at the President’s request, while four ministries were merged and several new ministers were appointed. The Cabinet was also reduced to 15 members.
Speaking during an interview broadcast by Public Service Media, President Muizzu said the election results reflected public expectations for changes within the administration.
According to the President, the results indicated support for a smaller and more efficient government structure.
“With the changes brought to the Cabinet, the efficiency of several ministries has improved,” Muizzu said.
He stated that the restructuring was aimed at improving service delivery and administrative performance.
The President added that the government was closely monitoring the work of ministries and that the effects of the restructuring were already becoming visible.
As an example, he referred to the integration of the higher education sector under the Ministry of Education.
According to the President:
-
Administrative requests relating to students studying abroad previously took up to four weeks to process
-
