Police probe fight involving expatriates at Artificial Beach

The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into an altercation involving a group of expatriates at Artificial Beach after a video of the incident circulated on social media.
Artificial Beach is one of the main public gathering areas in Malé and is frequented by residents and visitors.
Police said they became aware of the incident after footage showing a group of individuals engaged in a physical confrontation was shared online.
Although no formal complaint has been submitted in relation to the incident, police said they would proceed with an investigation.
“However, as this involves a criminal offence, we inform you that we will investigate this matter under legal procedures and take the necessary actions,” police said in a statement.
Authorities have not released details regarding the identities of those involved or the circumstances that led to the altercation.
Police have previously taken action against expatriates involved in criminal offences, including deportation following the completion of legal proceedings.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
