Police reverse appointment of Shifan to commissioner’s bureau
Sources within the police service said a series of portfolio changes were implemented on 16 May, including the appointment of Shifan to lead the bureau.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan was appointed as Head of the Maldives Police Service’s Commissioner’s Bureau before the decision was subsequently withdrawn, according to information obtained by Dhauru.
Sources within the police service said a series of portfolio changes were implemented on 16 May, including the appointment of Shifan to lead the Commissioner’s Bureau.
According to the sources, an internal memorandum was circulated announcing Shifan’s appointment, replacing the officer who had previously held the position.
However, the decision was later reversed.
“Not long after, that notice was recalled,” a senior police official told Dhauru on condition of anonymity.
The reason for withdrawing the appointment has not been disclosed. However, sources indicated that some senior officials expressed dissatisfaction following the decision to appoint Shifan to the post.
Despite the reversal, Shifan continues to serve as the Police Service’s Chief Spokesperson.
Efforts to obtain comment from Shifan were unsuccessful.
The Commissioner’s Bureau is one of the central administrative offices within the Maldives Police Service. Several key departments operate under its supervision, making it an important part of the institution’s leadership structure.
The Maldives Police Service has not publicly commented on the appointment or its subsequent withdrawal.
