Zeenaz Adnan has been appointed as a Minister of State at the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare.

A media official from the ministry confirmed on Sunday that Zeenaz joined the ministry's gender division on 7 June and has commenced duties as a State Minister.

Zeenaz has previously worked in the education sector and has also served as Chief Executive Officer of Kudakudhinge Hiya, the state-run children's shelter.

She is the wife of Adam Shareef, who served as Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works in the current administration.

Adam Shareef resigned from the Cabinet in April as part of a government reshuffle. The government has since nominated him for appointment as the Maldives' Ambassador to Qatar, with the matter currently before Parliament for consideration.

During the early period of the current administration, Zeenaz also served as Secretary General of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).

The Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare has not released further details regarding her responsibilities in the new role.
