The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into allegations that school employees manipulated payroll records to collect the salary of a former expatriate employee.

The case involves administrative staff at a school in the Greater Malé Area and was uncovered during an internal audit carried out by the Ministry of Education.

The ACC confirmed that an investigation is underway but said it would not provide further details while inquiries continue.

According to information related to the case, an expatriate employee resigned from the school in 2021. It is alleged that three administrative staff members subsequently altered payroll records by entering another individual's name in place of the former employee.

The arrangement allegedly enabled the continued collection of salary payments that should have ceased following the employee's resignation.

The matter came to light during the ministry's audit process, which identified irregularities in the school's financial records.

Following the discovery of the alleged scheme, the three employees implicated in the case were dismissed from their positions.

The ACC is continuing its investigation into the matter.
