ACC seeks prosecution of ex-Hoarafushi councillors over land lease
According to the commission, the council leased a 5,000-square-foot plot of land to The Hawks for its fuel business in Hoarafushi.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office to prosecute seven former members of the HA. Hoarafushi Council over the lease of a plot of land to The Hawks Private Limited.
The ACC said the case was submitted to the PG Office on 20 April and has been accepted for review. It is not yet known whether the PG Office has decided to proceed with criminal charges.
According to the commission, the council leased a 5,000-square-foot plot of land to The Hawks for its fuel business in Hoarafushi. The ACC alleges that the land was leased in breach of the applicable regulations.
The commission has requested charges against former Council President Mohamed Waheed, former Vice President Ahmed Imdhaah, and former councillors Ibrahim Shakir, Ahmed Raoof, Maryam Wakeela, Aiminath Wisam and Aminath Naseeha.
The ACC has asked the PG Office to prosecute the seven individuals on two counts:

Misuse of official position to obtain or provide an unlawful benefit.

Acting in a manner that deprived the State of a financial benefit to which it was entitled.
Of the seven individuals named by the ACC, Aiminath Wisam is the only person who remains a member of the Hoarafushi Council.
