Maldives pledges annual $50,000 contribution to UNRWA

The Maldives has pledged to contribute USD 50,000 annually to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to support its humanitarian operations.
The commitment was announced during a conference on support for UNRWA held at the United Nations Headquarters.
The announcement was made by the Maldives' Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr Ali Naseer.
Addressing the conference, Dr Naseer said supporting UNRWA was not simply a budgetary decision but an investment in protecting human dignity and upholding the international legal order.
He also highlighted the challenges facing the agency's operations and referred to what he described as false allegations against UNRWA. He called on the international community to provide sustainable funding to enable the agency to continue its work.
The Maldives previously contributed USD 50,000 to UNRWA in 2024.
In recent months, charitable organisations and fundraising campaigns in the Maldives have also raised millions of rufiyaa in support of humanitarian assistance for Palestine.
