Maldives committed to strengthening ties with US, says president
The President also expressed his intention to work closely with President Trump to further develop relations between the two countries.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to strengthening its relationship with the United States, stating that he looks forward to working with US President Donald J. Trump to expand cooperation between the two countries.
The President made the remarks in a message sent to President Trump, the US government and the American people to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence.
According to the President's Office, President Muizzu noted that 2026 is also the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United States.
In his message, the President said the relationship between the two countries has developed over the past six decades on the basis of mutual respect, friendship and cooperation.
He reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas including security and defence, trade, economic development, education and people-to-people exchanges.
The President also expressed his intention to work closely with President Trump to further develop relations between the two countries.
According to the President's Office, the President concluded his message by expressing his hope of expanding cooperation and friendship between the Maldives and the United States in the years ahead.
