Water and electricity services have commenced at Zone A of Malé North Harbour, following the completion of utility installation works in the area.
Zone A, located along Boduthakurufaanu Magu, had been without water and electricity since road expansion works were completed in February. Installation of the utility networks began in March.
Despite the installation of water and electricity meters, the services had not been activated for more than four months.
The lack of utility services at the harbour was highlighted in a series of reports published this week by Dhauru, alongside concerns raised by boat operators regarding conditions at North Harbour.
Following the reports, Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim requested that senior officials of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) be summoned before a parliamentary committee to respond to issues affecting the harbour.
MPL activated water and electricity services at Zone A on Tuesday evening.
The services were launched during a visit to the site by MPL Chief Executive Officer Hussain Shafeeg.
In a post on X, MPL acknowledged that the area had previously been without water and electricity services.
The company said the completion of the project and the commencement of utility services would improve conditions for vessels and crews using Malé North Harbour.
