Police locate 2 of 5 containers lost from MPL barge

Police have located two of the five cargo containers that fell into the sea from a Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) barge at the outer jetty of the Malé Commercial Harbour on Saturday night.

Police had earlier issued an advisory urging mariners to exercise caution after the containers were reported adrift in waters between K. Dhoonidhoo and Feydhoofinolhu.

In an update on Sunday, police confirmed that five containers had fallen into the sea during the incident. Two have since been located, while efforts are continuing to find the remaining three.

Authorities have not disclosed the contents of the containers.

The incident occurred during adverse weather in the Greater Malé Area, with heavy rain and strong winds affecting the region.

Police have not released further details on the cause of the incident.
