The Maldivian government has condemned missile attacks launched by Yemen's Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia.

The attacks came after the Houthis announced the end of a four-year ceasefire, accusing Saudi Arabia of supporting airstrikes targeting Sana'a International Airport, which is under Houthi control.

Saudi Arabia said its air defence systems intercepted missiles targeting the country's southern regions. A spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition attributed the attacks to the Houthi movement.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Maldivian government condemned the missile attacks, describing them as a violation of Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The government also said the attacks posed a threat to regional security and stability.

The statement reaffirmed the Maldives' solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its people, adding that the government supports measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the strike on Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia was carried out in response to what he described as an attack on Sana'a International Airport.

The Houthis also announced the end of what they described as a period of military restraint and warned airlines against using Saudi airspace until restrictions on Sana'a International Airport are lifted.
