Yameen's sentencing on Sunday

Yameen has been charged with bribery and money laundering. Yusuf Naeem has been charged with bribery.

The Criminal Court has scheduled the hearing of the verdict in the money laundering case against former president and opposition leader Abdulla Yameen on Sunday.

Hearings on former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom alleged for taking a bribe from former MP Yusuf Naeem of Felidhoo constituency concluded on 30 November. The next step in the case against them is the sentencing.

Criminal Court Media Official Ahmed Aman told Atoll Times on  Thursday that the verdict hearing in the case has been scheduled for 9 am on Sunday.  

Yameen has been charged with bribery and money laundering. Yusuf Naeem has been charged with bribery.

Both have denied the charges and face a minimum sentence of three years in prison if convicted guilty. If found guilty of money laundering, Yameen faces up to five years in prison.
