Over 4,000 Maldivians travel for Umrah during school holidays
Al-Musafir carried the largest number of pilgrims, with 1,004 people travelling through the group.
More than 4,000 Maldivians have travelled for Umrah during the ongoing school holiday, according to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
Umrah operators schedule group departures around school holidays, when demand for pilgrimage travel increases. A number of groups departed for the annual July Umrah period following the start of the school break last Thursday.
Statistics released by the Islamic Ministry on Monday show that 30 groups were authorised to take pilgrims for Umrah during the holiday.
Al-Musafir carried the largest number of pilgrims, with 1,004 people travelling through the group.
The Maldives Hajj Corporation took 640 pilgrims, while Qibla Hajj & Umrah carried 330. Meeqat Hajj & Umrah took 192 pilgrims and Arafat Hajj & Umrah carried 189.
Children are also among those travelling for Umrah during the school break.
In addition to the July school holiday period, demand for Umrah travel among Maldivians typically increases during the annual school holidays in December and during Ramadan.
