MTCC says incomplete pump stations behind flooding on Boduthakurufaanu Magu
According to the company, all three pump stations are scheduled to be installed, tested and commissioned before 15 August.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has attributed flooding on the newly opened section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu to ongoing work to install storm water pump stations.
The 700-metre section of the road, extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Presidential Jetty (Izzudheen Faalan), was opened to traffic last Friday.
The following day, tidal surges affected parts of the road. Subsequent heavy rainfall led to water accumulating on the newly opened stretch, prompting criticism from members of the public.
In a statement issued on Thursday, MTCC said it had previously informed the public that work on the remaining components of the project would continue after the road was opened.
The company said installation of the three pump stations designated for the road has not yet been completed.
"Specifically, installation work on the three pump stations designated for the road has not yet been completed," MTCC said.
According to the company, all three pump stations are scheduled to be installed, tested and commissioned before 15 August.
MTCC said that until the work is completed, personnel and equipment will be deployed to remove floodwater from the area during periods of heavy rainfall.
