HDC allocates temporary Hulhumalé land to WAMCO to address waste issues

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has allocated a temporary plot of land to the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) to support waste management operations in Hulhumalé following recent disruptions.
Waste collection in Hulhumalé has been affected since a fire broke out at WAMCO's Regional Waste Management Facility in K. Thilafushi on Sunday night last week.
Following the incident, WAMCO temporarily reduced the volume of waste accepted from Hulhumalé and Villimalé for disposal at Thilafushi.
WAMCO Managing Director Mujthaba Jaleel announced the temporary land allocation in a post on X on Wednesday night.
He said HDC had provided a suitable plot to help address the waste management challenges.
"Thanks to the initiative of HDC's Managing Director, we were able to reach a very good solution," Mujthaba wrote.
Neither WAMCO nor HDC has disclosed the size or location of the plot.
HDC has also not issued an official statement providing further details of the arrangement.
