President Solih files nomination papers for MDP primary

MDP president and speaker of parliament Mohamed Nasheed filed his nomination papers on Friday.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday submitted his nomination papers to ruling MDP office with the support of 20,000 members to contest in the party's primary to choose a candidate for next year's presidential election.

President Solih has filed his nomination papers to run for the primary to be held on January 28, Kinbidhoo MP Mohamed Nashiz who serves as the president's campaign manager announced on Twitter Saturday morning.

Nashiz said that President Solih submitted his nomination papers for the presidential primary with the signatures of more than 20,000 MDP members.

MDP opened nominations for the primary on Sunday. While the deadline to apply for the primary ends at 4pm Saturday, MDP president and speaker of parliament Mohamed Nasheed filed his nomination papers on Friday. He filed his nomination papers for the primary with the signatures of 500 people.
