Pro-Nasheed Shihab resigns as presidential advisor
Shihab has been supporting Nasheed since the formation of two factions within the MDP.
Mohamed Shihab, a supporter of speaker Mohamed Nasheed who has been trying to form a party called The Democrats after breaking away from the ruling MDP, resigned as advisor to the president on Sunday.
Presidential spokesperson Miuvan Mohamed confirmed the resignation of Shihab, who was the home minister and Nasheed's advisor during his government.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Shihab as his advisor on 15 October 2019. He has served as the speaker of parliament, headed two ministries and has also been the mayor of Male.

Nasheed left the MDP late last month. He also announced on Sunday that he will attend the founding rally of The Democrats, to be held on Wednesday night.
