Maldives Police Service has taken action against 151 individuals for violating vehicle restrictions imposed in Malé and Villimalé during the no-vehicle hours on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
The restriction, enforced from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, was intended to provide a safe environment for families and children to walk and participate in recreational activities on public roads. All motor and battery-powered vehicles, except emergency vehicles, were prohibited from operating during this period.
According to police, 141 individuals were issued warnings, while 11 were fined for breaching the regulations.
In addition, three individuals were found to be in violation of broader traffic regulations. These include one person driving dangerously, one with an expired driving licence, and one operating a vehicle without a licence.
The Malé City Council had imposed a temporary ban on vehicular movement across all public roads in Malé and Villimalé for the evening. However, this restriction did not apply to Hulhumalé.
