MNDF launches search op amid high holiday travel demand

MNDF Male Area Coast Guard 2nd Squadron personnel will be deployed in Male harbour area during the operation, which will continue till January 8.

The MNDF Coastguard has launched a special operation to inspect vessels for the recently started school holidays.

MNDF said that the operation, called 'Ops Alha’, was launched on Friday to check if necessary measures have been taken for the safety of ships and passengers travelling during this monsoonal period, safety risks high combined with bad weather and heavy sea travel. In the MNDF Male Area Coast Guard Central Squadron operation:

  • MNDF Male Area Coastguard second squadron will investigate whether the requirements mentioned in the safety certificate of the vessels have been met

  • Marine VHF to be checked

  • It will be seen if the boat captains have licence and documents in order

  • Will look into passenger safety issues

MNDF Coastguard personnel will be deployed in Male harbour area during the operation, which will continue till January 8.

There have been many unfortunate incidents during sea travel without getting the latest weather updates and not completing the safety requirements on board the ship.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted to occur over most parts of the country during the next 24 hours, along with rough seas.
