Ministry begins verification of 58,505 land and flat applications
The ministry said applicants will be notified through the Boahiyaavahikan online portal if discrepancies are identified during the review.
The Ministry of Housing has begun verifying more than 58,000 applications submitted for land plots and flats under the government’s housing schemes for the Malé region.
The ministry said on Saturday that it had started reviewing applications submitted under the “Aailee Boahiyaavahikan” and “Gaothigedhoru” schemes.
Applications for the schemes opened in January and closed in June. A total of 58,505 applications were submitted.
As part of the verification process, the ministry is cross-checking information provided by applicants against records obtained from government institutions and local councils.
The ministry said applicants will be notified through the Boahiyaavahikan online portal if discrepancies are identified during the review.
Applicants who believe the information contained in a notice is incorrect will have seven days to provide an explanation and submit supporting documents.
SMS notifications will also be sent to the mobile numbers provided in applications when there are updates or changes to an applicant’s status on the portal.
“If no response is submitted for the flagged issue within the timeframe set by the Ministry, the application will be deemed ineligible or incomplete,” the ministry said.
The ministry said responses to issues identified during verification must be submitted through the Boahiyaavahikan portal. Letters, emails and submissions through other channels will not be accepted at this stage.
Of the 58,505 applications received, 45,644 were submitted under the Aailee Boahiyaavahikan scheme. This includes 35,818 applications for flats and 9,826 applications for land.
Another 12,861 applications were submitted under the Gaothigedhoru scheme, comprising 112 applications for flats and 12,749 applications for land.
Under the government’s allocation policy, land for registered residents of Malé will be provided from the Greater Malé Region. Eligible residents of other islands who live in Malé will receive land from Rasmalé.
The government plans to allocate 15,000 land plots measuring 1,250 square feet each and 7,900 flats through the housing schemes.
