Customs has seized more than 3 kg of cannabis found in an air freight shipment brought into the Maldives.
Customs said Sunday that the drugs were found hidden inside an air freight shipment brought to the Maldives last Friday. The shipment was inspected at Velana International Airport (VIA).
According to Customs, 3.8 kg of cannabis was recovered from the shipment.
Customs did not disclose whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the seizure.
Meanwhile, four people arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives have been remanded in custody for 30 days.
The four were arrested in connection with the same case, according to documents submitted by Customs. However, the arrest warrant does not include details of the case, and it is not known what the four were arrested for.
