Police say second car struck 9-year-old after Hulhumalé motorcycle crash

A nine-year-old girl who died after sustaining injuries in a road accident in Hulhumalé Phase 2 on Saturday night is believed to have been struck by a car, police said Wednesday.
Zeeva Sinaan Ahmed of M. Lemontree died while receiving treatment on a ventilator at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the accident, based on video footage and an examination of the scene.
According to police, the accident occurred when the driver of a car parked on the side of the road attempted to enter the vehicle. A motorcycle then struck the man, causing the motorcycle and its rider to fall into the left lane of the road.
Police said another car travelling in the lane at the time may have failed to stop and struck or ran over the girl after she fell from the motorcycle.
Forensic analysis is being conducted to determine how the accident occurred.
Police said three vehicles involved in the incident were towed and the driving licences of the three drivers were confiscated.
The driver of the parked car was found to have been operating the vehicle while his licence was already withheld. Police said he was fined and subject to further sanctions.
