Opposition is set to hold protests across the country on Friday demanding the release of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who started serving an 11 prison sentence for bribery and money laundering this week.
Among the many activities the opposition has already commenced pressuring for the immediate release of Yameen, the main event of holding protests across all islands on Friday was announced at a press conference today at PPM office.
These protests named as 'Haram verdict' will commence at 4pm on Friday in all inhabited islands, said the opposition.
PNC president Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who is part of the opposition coalition, stated that the party's members, supporters of Yameen and well-wishers from across the country are set to take part in these protests.
The opposition has accused the government of having meddled in Yaamin’s trial and influencing the courts so as to make sure he is unable to run for office next year.
