President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said on Wednesday that the process of recovering funds involved in the MMPRC corruption case is still underway and a positive result can be achieved.
At a press conference held Wednesday, when asked by Atoll Times that the money lost to the state in the MMPRC scandal was not recovered as promised, the president said efforts were on to recover money from 11 people, including companies.
"We will send a chargesheet to recover money from 11 people, including some companies. It is moving fast," he said.
Speaking about the MMPRC scandal, President Solih further said:
-
14 cases pertaining to the case were filed in the court earlier
-
43 charges against five of them have been proven in the court
-
Cases of seven parties and two companies are already in the court
-
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating 53 cases
-
Talks underway with PG office to decide on prosecution in 10 cases
He said the PG had decided that charges could be filed in four of the 10 cases. He pointed out that five cases had been sent back for review two days ago.
"In one case, it has been decided that they cannot be charged, out of the 10 cases sent to the PG so far. In addition, the AG has forwarded some of these cases to MMPRC for submission to the Civil Court in order to recover funds from the cases being investigated by the ACC. We believe that these things will continue," he said.
