With the peak season in full swing, the queues inside the terminal have swelled

Tourists arriving in the Maldives for New Year's Eve are facing problems at the airport on Saturday with the main seaplane operator Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) system having gone down.

The issue has led to excessive queues in the airport since morning due to prolonged check-in’s disrupted flights.

Thousands of tourists arrive in the Maldives every day to celebrate Christmas and The New Year, many of whom use the services of TMA to get to resorts.

TMA has declined to comment when asked about the problems with check-ins.

Tourists travelling with TMA are required to check-in at the counters outside the international terminal, with a huge queue to be seen earlier today in this area.

“Things are going absolutely mad,” said a resort official working at the airport.

“Now check-in’s are being done manually. But it’s still chaotic. This whole place is queued up.”
