Cabinet on Tuesday decided to hold celebrations for the National Fisherman’s Day in GDh. Fares-Maathoda and the National Farmers Day along with World Food Day in K. Kaashidhoo.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the decision after discussing papers submitted by the fisheries ministry at Tuesday's cabinet meeting.
The President's Office noted that the latest Fishermen's Day celebrations were held in K. Gaafaru on 10 December 2021. This time the opportunity was opened to the southern atolls.
Fishermen's Day has been officially celebrated in the Maldives every year since 1989. Since 2020, the Solih administration has declared 15 October as the Farmers' Day. The day after, on 16 October falls World Food Day, and is marked wherever the farmers day celebration is held in the Maldives.
The President's Office said Farmers' Day is celebrated in recognition of the hard work of farmers and to increase public interest in agriculture.
