India's Renaatus to develop Addu Gan airport

Gan airport is being developed under the a credit line issued by Exim Bank of India at a cost of $17 million (MVR 272.2 million).

Indian construction company Renaatus has been awarded a contract to develop Addu Gan airport.

Gan airport is being developed under the a credit line issued by Exim Bank of India at a cost of $17 million (MVR 272.2 million).

Seven contractors were qualified during the bidding process . A company to work on the project was selected and the decision to hand over the project to Renaatus was announced by Hamid Nasheed Mohamed, chairman of the company that runs Gan airport, at a ceremony held Wednesday morning to mark the 80th anniversary of the airport.

The agreement with Renaatus is expected to be signed by the end of this month.

The country's oldest airport will be developed with shops, restaurants, lounges and rescue, fire fighting services and other facilities.

Gan airport project:

  • The terminal will be developed with state-of-the-art facilities to cater to 1.5 million passengers annually

  • A new control tower will be constructed

  • Fire station to be constructed

  • Cargo facilities will be developed with cold storage 

  • Airport roads and parking areas will be developed
