The first houses of the 'floating city' being developed in the lagoon near K. Aarah have been towed to the area.

In February last year, a local company, Bison, was awarded the contract to build a house for the 'floating city' to be developed for the first time in the world. Then, in October, the company showcased the houses that were being built there. However at that time, the houses were not placed in the lagoon where the 'floating city' would be set.

The Bison company on Monday announced that the first houses of the 'floating city' were taken to the lagoon and placed. Two vividly coloured houses can now be seen on the lagoon. Two saplings were also planted near the houses on a sandy 'road'.

According to images released by the Bison company, the houses were taken to the lagoon with the help of a large boat and a tug. According to the company, the first houses were successfully moved to the lagoon.

Regarding the floating city being developed by Dutch Docklands, the company's Maldives consultant Ibrahim Riyaz had earlier said that the project is currently being implemented as an integrated tourism project. It was approved and a new agreement was signed last year. With this, he assured that the work would be expedited.

Floating City Project:

  • 5,000 housing units

  • 35 luxury villas

  • Three-bedroom apartments on 1,500 - 900 square feet, on two storeys

  • The cost of an apartment - MVR 2 - 4 million

The floating city will be built with the help of technology used in the Netherlands.
