The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday decided to release the MVR 36.89 million allocated to political parties in the state budget to six political parties.
Commission Vice President Ismail Habeeb said on Wednesday that the EC has decided to release funds to the six parties that submitted their audit reports and annual reports last year.
The parties that have been selected for funds from the budget are:

MDP - MVR 14.2 million

PPM - MVR 9.5 million

Jumhooree Party (JP) - MVR 5.68 million

Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) - MVR 2.59 million

Adhaalath Party - MVR 2.4 million

Maldives National Party (MNP) – MVR 2.43 million (after deducting MVR 20,000 fine for delay in submitting the report)
At present, 11 political parties are registered with the Election Commission.
Funds are released from the state budget to parties that have 10,000 members when the budget for that year is passed by parliament. Funds are released based on the percentage of members in the parties.
