The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a request to the Prosecutor General's Office to prosecute Sami Ageel, former director general of regional airports, for accepting a shipment of worn out buses and allowing them to be imported in violation of the agreement.

Appeal against Sami was sent for prosecution after an inquiry was conducted into the purchase of buses in violation of a 2019 agreement with a private company for supply of buses for regional airports. In a message to the media on Wednesday, the agency said:

  • That the terms and conditions of the buses in the agreement have not been met

  • It is clear that Sami asked to accept the buses without taking the agreement into account

The ACC had sought framing of charges against Sami for misusing his official position to gain undue advantage.

He was accused of corruption when he was in the finance ministry before being appointed director of regional airports. Subsequently, in 2021, following allegations by a section of employees that he was trying to take up the top post in the transport ministry, the Civil Services Commission decided not to give him the post.
