The US Agency for International Development (USAID) on Wednesday launched a special project in the Maldives to reduce plastic from the oceans.
The project, which aims to help reduce the use of plastic and improve efficient disposal of solid waste, was launched at a function held at the Artificial Beach area on Wednesday. The project, organised by USAID along with the US mission for the Maldives, cleaned the beach on Wednesday evening.
The objectives of the 'Ocean Plastics Reduction Activity' project, which focuses on the problem of ocean pollution due to plastic waste, are as follows:

Reducing the use of plastic products

Develop solid waste management and focus on reducing the plastic waste that can be dumped

Help individuals find suitable solutions to waste management at island levels and improve their work over time

To encourage people to find better ways to dispose of the waste by targeting them to reduce the amount of plastic waste dumped in the seas

Budget: USD 5.7 million

Officially, the project was launched in December last year.
