MVR 35m from Zakat Fund in 3 years for medical expenses of poor

Islamic minister Dr Mohamed Waheed said on Wednesday that over MVR 35 million has been spent from Zakat Fund over three years for medical treatment of the underprivileged.
In a written reply to a question raised by Maafannu Central MP Ibrahim Rasheed, the minister gave details of the expenses incurred on medical treatment from the Zakat Fund.
According to the minister, MVR 35.8 million have been spent on medical treatment between 2019 and 2021.

2021 - MVR 7 million
The Zakat Fund, which is meant to help those in distress, also spends on medical and other activities. The fund also funds for the rehabilitation and education of mosques.
