Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) said on Sunday that employees working on the construction of flats in Hulhumale Phase II, handed over to Indian company JMC, have resumed work after ending their strike.

Around 2,000 JMC employees have been on strike since March 25 for three main reasons:

  • Poor hygiene of the food they are provided; sometimes even rotten food are being provided

  • They were told they would be required to put in eight hours of work, but have to now work uninterrupted for 10 or 11 hours without any overtime pay

  • The absence of medical care

The state-owned FDC, which handed over the project to JMC, issued a statement in this regard on Sunday.

The statement said that the workers have resumed work since Friday. From the moment the corporation came to know about the issues between the workers and the contractor, efforts were made to resolve the issues, the company said.

"Everything has been sorted out and necessary steps have been taken to ensure that the same is made in view of the demands made by the employees," the statement said, adding that the matter is being closely monitored.
