Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam has filed a counter complaint at the police alleging that the allegations made against her for her stand against the state's security cover for Speaker Mohamed Nasheed were threatening her life.

Rozaina lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday after her fellow MDP lawmaker Imthiyaz Fahmy, who is from Nasheed's breakaway faction within MDP, lodged a complaint with the police alleging that she and South Henveiru MP Hussain Shaheem were obstructing the former president's security.

In her letter addressed to police commissioner Mohamed Hameed, Rozaina said she has never tried to hurt anyone or had ever had the heart to do such a thing or even planned to do so.

Rozaina said that she never believed that political differences with people in politics should be oppressive.

In his letter, Imthiyaz said justice has yet to prevail in the May 6, 2021, attack on Nasheed, while Rozaina's letter said that she condemned it on the day it happened and even now.

Rozaina also denied allegations that she was interfering with Nasheed's security.

"Despite MP Imthiyaz Fahmy's allegations, I have not advocated that president Nasheed should not be given security, that it should be stopped or suggested changes in the way it is provided," Rozaina said in the letter.

Pointing out that many things that could not be politically agreed upon with Nasheed have taken place in recent times, Rozaina said she would criticise Nasheed's policies and the way he is behaving politically, both now and in the future.

"That doesn't mean I want to hurt him physically," Rozaina said.

She said the allegations levelled by Imthiyaz were politically motivated by Nasheed's team after their failure to argue with her and and described it as an attempt to defame her.

It was, Rozaina said, "very cowardly, uncivilised and dangerous accusations."

"Therefore, by accusing me of planning to kill President Nasheed, he has exposed me to a situation where I could be physically attacked by a group of people, putting a warning on my head without any evidence," Rozaina said.
