A tug boat and a barge belonging to India's MM Export which had travelled to HA. Dhidhdhoo with rock bounders required for the construction of the island's harbour has ran aground on the island's reef two days ago.
President of the island council, Abdulla Rasheed, told Atoll Times that the barge and tug ran aground on the island's reef two days ago.
He said that the barge has since been salvaged by using MTCC's excavator.
"But the tug boat is still on the reef," said Abdulla Rasheed.
"We are in the process of bringing in another tug to salvage the tug boat," he said.
The council has submitted a formal request to the environment ministry and the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) to assess the damage caused by the barge and tug.
