Parliament on Monday dismissed an emergency motion over the prolonged delays in completion of flats at private housing developments even after buyers had made the payment.
Eighteen MPs voted in favour of debating on the motion filed by Maldives National Party (MNP) MP Abdulla Riyaz from Thimarafushi constituency, while 26 members voted against.
Riyaz said that people were concerned about the delay in construction work and afterwards in the handover process of flats, which is being operated as a housing scheme, where a large section of the public has been charged money.
In particular, some of the buildings under construction in Hulhumale first phase have been stalled, have not progressed and some flats have even been peddled to more than one buyer, according to the motion.
Despite the burden on the people, authorities have failed to take appropriate action, Riyaz said.
