The opposition coalition on Tuesday extended an invitation to all political parties to work together with them in parliament.
The party said in a tweet that it was inviting the parties to work together to do everything possible to hold the government accountable in parliament.
"We invite members and parties who want to work together with PPM and PNC parliamentary groups in this endeavour," the party tweeted.
Members of opposition parties are already part of a loose alliance formed to protest against the "loss" and "sale" of parts of the Maldives' southern EEZ following an international tribunal ruling on the delimitation of the territorial waters between the Maldives and Chagos.
The coalition has submitted no-confidence motions against Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath and foreign minister Abdulla Shahid over the issue.
Following the expulsion of Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim, who was a leading figure in the ruling MDP’s breakaway faction loyal to party president Mohamed Nasheed, 12 members of parliament belonging to the faction and Nasheed's close aides have quit the party and started the process of forming another political party called The Democrats.
After the members left MDP, the party lost its super majority in parliament.
